VEG

In honour (honor for my American friends) of Martha Payne aka VEG, I thought I would share the meal I ate over the weekend. Now it isn’t exactly a school meal but the tray reminded me of that place. As I was out, and not paying (thanks Mum and Dad) it really had to be the Harrys Bar ‘Steak on a Stone’ special. The steak was perfectly cooked, though I would say that I cooked it myself. Yes, I went to a restaurant and cooked my own food!? One of the features of this dish is that you can cook it to your own liking on an impossibly hot stone; luckily we were by a window so it wasn’t as hot as I was warned it can get. The chunky chips we nice though a little under cooked. Leeks were soft and well seasoned. The onion rings were far too crispy, in fact I am still debating the existence on onion in all that overcooked batter, but I still ate them all. Also came with a peppercorn sauce that was delicious.

Food-o-meter - 10/10

Health Rating - 4/10

Price - £24.95 + 1.95 for the sauce

sapralot asked: Thus far I've worked exclusively with available light. But recently I received an offer to shoot some corporate portraits, and now I have doubts whether I will come far without lighting gear. Are there any foolproof lighting setups that are easy to learn and apply in various environments? Or should I stick to ambient light and search for appropriate locations instead?

And here is exactly why all photographers need to know some simple lighting set ups.

I don’t want to single you out here but it’s this kind of...

agovernmentman asked: Hi Zack. You responded to the person asking about personal style by saying to develop a style and market it to clients who match that style. What I want to know is, what does that kind of marketing look like? Marketing and self-promotion are real weak points for me and I don't have any sense of where to start. How do you go about making it known that you're ready, able and willing to work?

Let’s look at marketing from a wide angle perspective first. Every marketing plan needs to have these key things…

Anonymous asked: About a year ago you blogged about putting together a new printed portfolio, and clearly stated your preference for a physical portfolio. If I recall, you were putting it together primarily for the portfolio reviews at Photo Plus Expo. I just registered for them this year, and was wondering about your experience last year. Did anyone who reviewed your book make any comments regarding physical vs digital (iPad) portfolio preferences? Was it worth the extra effort?

It was most definitely worth the extra effort. I met with two art directors who commented they were glad to see a printed portfolio. Both of them...
